How to become a survivor?
This guided tour option for schoolchildren combines a simple interpretive hiking route through the Torcal de Antequera, with an outdoor themed workshop.
The students will hike part of the Ammonite Route (or a similar route adapted to the available time). On this guided hike, the guide will explain concepts related to the karst landscape, biodiversity, history, etc., tailoring the explanation to the students’ age.
Once the hike is complete and participants have explored the unique features of this mountainous and labyrinthine environment, a survival workshop will be held. Students will learn to navigate the wilderness safely using basic survival techniques (finding water, building a bivouac shelter, etc.) and the fundamentals of orienteering in nature.
El Torcal de Antequera is a true labyrinth of stone with a highly variable mountain climate. Therefore, it’s the perfect place to learn survival skills. But there’s a lot to learn! So the group will need 4 hours for this visit. Although the visit schedule is adapted to the group, a sample itinerary could be the following:
- 10:00 am: Reception and welcome of the group at the Torcal Alto Visitor Center. Free time for breakfast and use of restrooms.
- 10:30 a.m.: Start of the hiking route, with several stops accompanied by explanations from the guides about the natural and cultural characteristics of the area. The route will vary depending on the time available and weather conditions.
- 12:30 pm (approx.): Return to the Visitor Center, and participation in the nature survival and orientation workshop. This activity will take place outside the Torcal Alto Visitor Center.
- 2:00 PM: End of visit and farewell.
*This visit schedule can be adapted to the group in terms of start and end times of activities, duration of the visit, etc.
Target students and fees
This activity is aimed at students from the third cycle of Primary Education to Baccalaureate. The group must have a minimum of 20 students and a maximum of 50 students.
As for the fee, it is €8.50/student (€9/student in English), and includes:
- Specialized guides in the Torcal de Antequera with the corresponding ratio (1/25)
- Specific teaching resources (sent via email in digital format)
- Guided tour adapted to the group
- Liability and accident insurance
