Antequera

El Torcal is flanked by two population centers, to the north, the city of Antequera and to the south, the recent municipality of Villanueva de la Concepción.

Antequera, a strategic city in Andalusia, due to its geographical location, close to the center of the community, has been a fundamental communication axis for the development of Andalusia.

From the Age of the Mediterranean Bronze, until today there have been numerous peoples who have crossed or remained in their lands. Proof of this is the cultural legacy of the city, from the Dolmens of Menga, Viera and El Romeral to Roman, Visigoth and Muslim remains.

Antequera was known as the city with more churches per inhabitant of Andalusia, and to prove it we will only have to go up to the Alcazaba to see all the bell towers that poke over the rooftops.

 

Its geographical location makes this city have a complete system of terrestrial communications: Rail: Suburban Train, AVE Highway: A-92 and A-45 motorway as well as with N-434, A338, E-902 Construction is also planned from an airport that will become a dry port.

Villanueva de la Concepción

Recently segregated from the Municipality of Antequera, Villanueva de la Concepción has become municipality 101 of the province of Malaga. Located on the south face of El Torcal, it is the closest town to the natural area, which can be seen from a bird’s-eye view from the Ventanillas viewpoint.

Villanueva de la Concepción, maintains the structure of the Andalusian white villages, narrow streets and the occasional hill. It currently has a population of around 3300 inhabitants and an environment rich in landscapes, on one hand the south face of El Torcal, while the rest of the compass is composed of ample landscapes dotted with olive groves, almonds and cereals, where its cork oak among holm oaks.

Villanueva de la Concepción is also a key point in the communications to the South of El Torcal since there are many roads that connect the town with the Pto. De las Pedrizas, Casabermeja, Almogía, La Joya …
