In the Prehistory Workshop for Little Ones, we’ll travel back in time to learn more about the first inhabitants of El Torcal de Antequera. Where did they live? What did they eat? What did they believe in? These are just some of the questions we’ll find answers to in this prehistoric adventure.
What is the Little Prehistory Workshop about?
This guided tour option combines an easy hiking route through the Torcal de Antequera with a themed workshop in the classroom.
The students will walk along a short trail, learning more about the animals and plants that our ancestors used to survive in the Torcal de Antequera. Along the way, they will also see authentic marine fossils, such as ammonites.
Once in the classroom, the students will learn how the first inhabitants of El Torcal hunted, cooked, and what they believed. They will be able to see and touch replicas of arrows, pottery, beads, and small prehistoric idols. If time allows, and after becoming prehistoric experts, they will even be able to create their own prehistoric souvenir out of clay.
There are many things to do and learn on this visit, so the group will need 4 hours for it. Although the visit schedule can be adapted to the group, an example of a possible itinerary could be the following:
- 10:00 am: Reception and welcome of the group at the Torcal Alto Visitor Center. Free time for breakfast.
- 10:30 a.m.: Start of the interpretive walking trail to the Tornillo Natural Monument or a similar route (1 to 3 km, depending on the age of the students). Recognition and on-site observation of footprints and real fossils, medicinal plants or plants with other uses, and animal species.
- 12:00 pm (approx.): Return to the Visitor Center. Prehistory Workshop in the classroom. Depending on the students’ age, several workshops related to Prehistory can be carried out, such as recreating prehistoric idols and beads in clay or learning about hunting techniques and eating habits.
- 2:00 PM: End of visit and farewell.
*This visit schedule can be adapted to the group in terms of start and end times of activities, duration of the visit, etc.
Target students and fees
This activity is aimed at students from preschool to the third cycle of primary school. The group must have a minimum of 20 students and a maximum of 50 students.
The fee is €8.50/student (€9.50/student in English), and includes:
- Specialized guides in the Torcal de Antequera with the corresponding ratio (1/25)
- Specific teaching resources (sent via email in digital format)
- Workshop materials
- Guided tour adapted to the group
