{"id":1350,"date":"2018-10-10T10:26:54","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T08:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.torcaldeantequera.com\/information\/restriction-of-access-to-torcal-alto\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T20:17:31","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T18:17:31","slug":"restriction-of-access-to-torcal-alto","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.torcaldeantequera.com\/en\/information\/restriction-of-access-to-torcal-alto\/","title":{"rendered":"Access restriction"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_medium\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h4><strong>Why is car access to Torcal Alto sometimes closed?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Torcal Alto Visitor Cente<\/strong>r is located at the end of a <strong>narrow mountain road<\/strong> (in the Torcal Alto area), and has a <strong>limited parking space<\/strong> for cars and buses, in the heart of the Torcal de Antequera Natural Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some days, the massive influx of visitors with cars can cause the parking lot and the access road to collapse, blocking the only access road to Torcal Alto, which entails a risk situation in case emergency teams have to go to a rescue, accident or evacuation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Therefore, to avoid this dangerous situation and as a measure to control capacity within the natural area, <strong>access to cars is closed on weekends, holidays<\/strong> and those days when a large influx of visitors is expected (only for a few hours a day).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>When is car access to Torcal Alto closed?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Weekends and holiday mornings in high season (autumn to spring), and some summer nights (star showers or full moon nights). In short, on days and times of many visitors with cars.<\/p>\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Spring 2026: <\/span>Due to the high influx of visitors, the access restriction may also apply on weekdays.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What time does access close?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>There is no defined time, since this closure depends on the influx of cars on each date. Access is closed <strong>once the parking capacity of the Torcal Alto Visitor Center is full.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>At what time does car access reopen?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Weekends and holidays:<\/strong> Access will reopen between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm, depending on the season. Although this opening may be delayed and\/or closed again on very specific days when the situation requires it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Weekdays (Spring 2026): <\/strong>Access will reopen at 2pm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>When can you access it by car?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Early in the morning until capacity is reached (schedule varies depending on the date and visitor numbers), and in the afternoon after access is reopened.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What vehicles are allowed to pass through restricted access?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Buses, taxis, VTC&#8217;s, duly identified courtesy vehicles from travel agencies, natural park employees and vehicles with a parking card for people with disabilities (visible on the windshield).<\/p>\n<h4><strong> Other specific situations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Families with small children in baby stroller<\/li>\n<li>Elderly people with more limited mobility (cane, walker&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li>People with heavy climbing or caving equipment<\/li>\n<li>Access with dogs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In all these cases, we recommend scheduling your visit for when access by private vehicle is possible, such as in the afternoons, from 2 or 3 pm onwards. In the case of climbing and caving, it is advisable to get up early and access very early in the morning.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How to access Torcal Alto when the road is closed to cars?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the road is closed, cars must park in the lower parking lot, which is located next to the A-7075 road between kilometers 41 and 42, and <strong>access Torcal Alto<\/strong> through any of these means:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Shuttle bus<\/strong>, which will be enabled from the same access closure and will be in operation until the afternoon. The ticket has a cost of <strong>\u20ac2\/person round trip<\/strong> (it is the same rate whether the user decides to use the round trip ticket, or just one trip, either one way or the return).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.torcaldeantequera.com\/en\/guided-tours__trashed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Torcal Alto Trail <\/strong><\/a>is for mountaineers who want a completely natural experience. This is a one way trail, 3.60km long, with a positive slope of 260m and very rocky terrain. We can consider it as medium difficulty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Access with pets on the shuttle bus<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a rule, <strong>dogs are not allowed on the shuttle<\/strong>, except in the following cases: guide or assistance dogs with proper accreditation, direct authorization from the driver, or dogs weighing less than 10 kg, which must travel in a carrier in the bus&#8217;s luggage compartment.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The transport company does not provide carriers for animals; therefore, this responsibility falls to the visitor, and the company is not liable for any damage to the animal or the carrier during the journey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the case of visitors with dogs, they can walk up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torcaldeantequera.com\/en\/guided-tours__trashed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Trail to the Torcal Alto<\/strong><\/a> (if the access closure is already in effect). However, <strong>it&#8217;s best to return during a time when private vehicle access is already open<\/strong>, as you&#8217;ll be able to access your vehicle and pets without hindrance: before the access closure in the morning, on weekends or holidays (very early in the morning), or in the afternoon. <\/p>\n<p>Please feel free to check the schedule: reservas@torcaldeantequera.com \/ 952243324 (9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In any case, remember that according to current regulations in the Protected Natural Areas of Andalusia, <strong>all pets must be on a leash<\/strong> at <strong>all times during your visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>What is the frequency of the shuttles?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Weekends and holidays:<\/strong> There are two shuttle buses covering the route to Torcal Alto, except on exceptional dates when up to three shuttle buses may be available. Therefore, service is frequent. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Weekdays (Spring 2026): <\/strong>There is one shuttle bus covering the route to Torcal Alto. Therefore, the frequency is usually approximately every 30 minutes (the time it takes to make a round trip).  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>End of shuttle service down (between 5pm and 5:15pm)<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Mandatory rest for drivers:<\/strong> according to Article 7 of Regulation (EC) No. 561\/2006 (Spanish regulations): <em>&#8220;After a driving period of four and a half hours, the driver will take an uninterrupted break of at least 45 minutes.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Weekends and holidays: between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm approx. In this case, please <strong data-start=\"333\" data-end=\"346\">be patient <\/strong>and always <strong data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"418\">follow the instructions of the access control staff.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"423\" data-end=\"611\">This parking lot also has <strong data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"476\">limited capacity<\/strong>, and its expansion is not the responsibility of the Visitor Center, but rather the <strong data-start=\"542\" data-end=\"608\">Public Administration responsible for environmental matters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"613\" data-end=\"883\">For <strong data-start=\"628\" data-end=\"655\">safety and traffic reasons<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"657\" data-end=\"727\">waiting with your vehicle next to the access barrier is not permitted<\/strong>, as this area is used for <strong data-start=\"765\" data-end=\"800\">shuttle bus maneuvers<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"819\" data-end=\"880\">must be kept clear for emergency vehicles to pass.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"1181\">In the meantime, you can <strong data-start=\"907\" data-end=\"948\">wait in the lower parking<\/strong> lot until a space becomes available, or <strong data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1051\">take the opportunity to visit other nearby natural sites<\/strong>, such as the <strong data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1087\"><a href=\"https:\/\/turismo.antequera.es\/puntos-de-interes\/nacimiento-del-rio-de-la-villa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Nacimiento de la Villa<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; or the <strong data-start=\"1093\" data-end=\"1113\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/%C3%81rea+Recreativa+Hoyo+de+la+Turca\/@36.9486543,-4.5376848,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0xd728d59d6e5d305:0x707cc39ef90e8726!8m2!3d36.9486501!4d-4.5328085!16s%2Fg%2F11kbc_4dk0?entry=ttu&amp;g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTAwOC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Hoyo de la Turca&#8221;<\/a><\/strong>, and return later when access is once again open to private vehicles.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Special &#8220;Perseids&#8221; and summer nights<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The access restriction will also be activated on certain summer nights where the influx of visitors by car may cause serious risk.
